Specify each modality

Define the required output and evidence for text, images or audio. Document tasks might require field-level references; audio tasks may need speaker and timestamp evidence. Establish consent, permitted use and retention before collecting samples.

Compare adaptation approaches

Start with a baseline model and evaluate prompting or retrieval before fine-tuning. If adaptation is needed, use representative training data, separate test sources and track performance regressions on previously supported tasks.

Include low-quality scans, noisy audio, misleading images and supported languages in the evaluation set. Aggregate accuracy can conceal important differences between modalities or customer groups.

Release and monitor

Use a versioned registry for approved models, prompts and retrieval settings. Gate changes against independent tests and human review, and retain a rollback target.

Monitor quality signals, user corrections, latency, token usage and operational incidents. Edge deployment and federated learning require separate checks for device constraints, update security and leakage; neither automatically guarantees privacy.
