Advanced RAG: hybrid retrieval, reranking and knowledge graphs
Ground enterprise answers in permission-aware evidence and evaluate each retrieval stage independently.

Prepare a governed knowledge base
Identify the owner, version, access rules and retention period for each document. Chunk by meaningful structure and preserve source identifiers, headings and page references. Index updates and deletions need a documented propagation path.
Retrieve and rerank
Combine keyword matching for precise identifiers with semantic retrieval for broader meaning. Rerank candidate passages against the user’s question; tune on a development set and reserve independent questions for evaluation.
Knowledge graphs can connect entities and relationships across records, but extracted links need provenance and review. A graph is not proof that a generated answer is correct. Enforce permissions before search results or graph relationships reach the model.
Test grounded generation
Check whether each material claim matches an accessible passage and whether the citation opens the correct source version. Include outdated policies, conflicting instructions, deleted records and questions with no answer.
Measure retrieval recall separately from answer support and abstention. Track latency and cost alongside accuracy, and record model, prompt, index and reranker versions for reproducibility.
